10 Major Causes Of Failure In Life (And How To Change That)

“The secret of life is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.” -Paulo Coelho

Imagine if you have had the privilege of analyzing the lives of thousands of people; where 98% of them can be considered “failures”.

There is something radically wrong with our society and our system of education which directs people into that majority.

If you could see the reasons behind this, you could understand and prevent this from happening to you.

One way to do this is to leverage your knowledge with mentors – people who have already done the research for you.

This is how you scale exponentially in your learning curve.

Please use this list to analyze yourself.

See the areas where you need to improve, and recognize the benefits of your strengths.

If you are like me, and you are always willing to learn more. This information was selected after reading Napoleon Hill’s Best Seller Book: Think and Grow Rich. There’s a lot of personal growth knowledge you can get from this book. Remember: Great Leaders Are Massive Readers.

1 – Lack Of Well-Defined Purpose In Life

One of the major cause of failure in life is not defining where you want to go.

It’s worrisome that a lot of people wander in life without destination as if they just wait for something to randomly happen.

While successful people are always aiming to make things happen. Do you have a well-defined purpose?

2 – Lack Of Ambition To Be Above Mediocrity

Moderate quality; not very good. This is mediocre by definition.

It’s hard to understand why people feel comfortable being in the middle and not excel with their peers.

Doesn’t it feel good to be better at something than the majority?

3 – Insufficient Education

While most people think that Education depends on the results of our university and school.

Successful people are in fact better than the majority because they mastered a skill most of us failed to build.

This skill is the ability to be Self-Educated. Becoming a learning machine is required to succeed.

You can never stop learning. Humans are like sponges and when we decide to be saturated, our progress gets blocked.

Education consists of applying knowledge effectively and persistently. Knowledge is useless without any action.

4 – Health Dis-Eases

Who can enjoy life if they are suffering any condition that alters their quality of life?

You may try to hide it and smile at people, while covering that pain that doesn’t let you be free and happy.

And this is very important since nutrition can alter our emotions and create waves of moody situations.

So let’s see a brief list of how we can improve our health based in the 5 core elements of holistic health:

  • Avoid food and water not conductive to health
  • Remove your habits of negative thoughts – build positive reaction to any situation
  • Wrong use of your personal and sexual energy
  • Build an exercise daily routine – make sure you stretch your spine and limbs.
  • Learn an adequate breathing habit and make sure you have supply of quality air.

5 – Procrastination

Usually I have trouble starting things I wanted to do a long time ago.

It always seems like the time is not right to do them and I patiently wait for that “special moment” to come.

Years can pass. And I’m still waiting …

Have you ever wondered why this can happen to you?

Some may say that it is because we are cautious and want to do things right.

Others may think it may fail if we do it now and we need to review the plan again.

In fact, the best way to solve this is simply to do it. It’s never the right time to start.

But when we take action immediately after a great idea appears, we develop the habit that destroys procrastination.

I’m finally doing what I wanted a long time ago. You can also do it starting now.

6 – Weak Persistence

How do you respond to the first signs of defeat? How do you feel when you start to think “I shouldn’t keep doing this, it’s a bad idea”?

There is a definite problem in us humans that we have an overwhelming fear of rejection.

We go through life avoiding failure and, ironically, that makes us fail: because we never finish trying.

Who knows.. maybe after crossing that veil of doubt you enter the successful zone. Sometimes it feels easier than it should have (in our mind).

7 – Negative Personality

Do you like people who complain when a problem comes up?

How do you feel about people who overreact negatively to any emotional situation?

One of the biggest problems people have is that they are not aware of their reaction.

Let’s be clear about something: sometimes the situation is not as dangerous as our reaction.

The way we react to situations can lead to solutions or failures.

Imagine a wild problem appears … Now you have the ability to hold long enough to breathe deeply.

You are closing your eyes and you feel the fresh air coming through your nose. Slow and deep.

You hold this time for a moment … giving the air enough time to oxygenate your body and brain.

And as you breathe out slowly you open your eyes and finally accept the situation that just happened.

If you could do this every time a problem appears … would you react the same way?

8 – Powerless Decision

How firm do you feel after making a decision? was it the right one or could it have been better?

Maybe you will change your decision because you thought it was not the right one.

You could also stay firm about it, but you still feel bad about it…

This is known as powerless decisions. They are not made rock-hard.

One moment you feel safe and act, then the other you dissolve yourself and want to change direction.

How often do you want to change your decisions? How do you feel after taking them?

Successful people don’t overthink this. Once a decision is done, there’s only one way to go.

9 – Wrong Selection Of Partners

“Let’s compromise” is what people decide when they want to marry. Responsibility comes first. Some may say…

But what happens if you partner with the wrong people? People that are not aligned with your destination.

It’s like two cars attached trying to go the same way with different objectives. It’ll be a rough ride.

One of the biggest problems with us humans is that we fear rejection. Even if that includes faking ourselves to please those we love.

We shut our secrets so we don’t hurt them, we close our minds and accept them because we love them.

Why would we continue in relationships that are not at ease, in a harmonious synergy?

People who involve in these situations are most likely to fail.

10 – Wrong Selection Of Vocation

Have you ever known people that end up working in something non-related to what they’ve spent multiple years of their life studying?

Well, I do. And it’s not a small group. It’s almost as if there’s something wrong with our educational system.

Most people end up doing something monotonous that is not synchronized with their tone.

We can’t blame the educational system if they never taught you how to discover your passion.

Because everyone is different, each one of us should walk their own path of discovery.

But it’s true you will never be happy if you go against the wind. Remember you are always guided by your emotions.

Here’s 3 simple steps to find out your perfect vocation.

  • Target your Knowledge. There must be something you know more than the middle, and you are always willing to learn more about it.
  • Discover your Passion. This knowledge is easy for you to talk about it and you really enjoy sharing it with the world.
  • Research Market Opportunity. When there’s a problem, there’s always a product/service you can offer. What can your knowledge solve in people’s life? Remember the economical retribution is aligned with the size of problem you solve.

You can see these 12 major causes of failure as a reason to make you feel bad about it. Or you can give it a reason to learn more about yourself.

It will be more helpful if you discuss this list with someone who knows you well. Review each one and analyze yourself.

Because the more you know yourself, the more you progress on your journey. And sometimes you need to stop to oversee things in your lives.

Am I going in the right path? How do I feel with my life right now? Is there anything stopping me now?

Make sure you write down these causes so you can always return to this list and see where you need to improve.

These causes are not permanent. No one is fixed in time, we are dynamic creatures with the ability to grow over time.

You can overcome any challenge you face. Let these causes be your impulse in life, and not a block.
